Convincing a Human that Aliens exist.

Have you ever had a conversation with a person but you just cant seem to get your point across? Maybe it’s because they simply cant understand you or the language you’re speaking or it might be because you are trying to teach a sexist about feminism. No matter what it is you are experiencing a communication filter.

Communication filters disrupt the basic thought process of the human brain, and they have the potential to wreak havoc in the journalistic field. Ellie Thornsbury, an aspiring journalist, describes this in her article  http://elliethornsbury.blogspot.com/2018/09/teaching-sexist-person-feminism-not.html“Teaching a Sexist Person Feminism; Not Going to Happen"She states; “People can compose the most meaningful and revolutionary messages, but they can be destroyed just because something goes wrong in the delivery.” How can journalists prevent this from happening?

While Thornsbury does not actually explain how one can prevent the effects of filters,  she does bring up some amazing points that inspired me to think about ways journalists prevent filters.

The internet has connected the world in many ways, one major way it has done this is by readily translating media into multiple languages. This helps prevent the informational filter. Audio books found on the internet can also aid in preventing the physical filter; a blind person is unable to read any written word unless it's in braille, audio books and articles allow the person to get information they otherwise couldn't due to physical limitations.

In her article Thornsbury discusses "So, the next time you try to convince a normal human being that you saw an alien, just keep in mind that your message may be perfectly fine, but you may be unsuccessful because of communication filters." I think that it's very important to remember, however I also believe that journalists have the responsibility to prevent these filter in any way we can.
