Scary violations

Today  might be a day that society breaks the norms and lets everyone dress up and scare people solely to get candy. However, it is not a day in which news organizations should break journastic standards. Just because it is Halloween does not mean that WHAS11 should throw their standards out the door. Apparently WHAS11 believes that it is important that the citizens of Louisville know about High Point, NC and their facebook declarations.

According to WHAS11 about a week ago High Points facebook sent out a message saying that Mary Jane Peanut Butter Kisses were not an acceptable candy to pass out. The full story can be found here; https://www.whas11.com/article/entertainment/north-carolina-city-takes-a-stance-on-popular-halloween-candy-no-one-likes-them/417-609943206

The story lacks local relevance and newsworthiness , treak or treaters in North Carolina have no impact on the citizens of Louisville, nor does this event impact a large audience for a long time.  Under "Local Headlines" and described as entertainment the story makes the interesting important, not the important interesting which is the 7th element of good journalism. A story about Halloween candy in a different state should not be the first thing I see on a news organization's website.

It's nice to see that local news stations are getting in the sipirt of the holiday, but next time WHAS11 should do this with a relevant story, news that many neighborhoods switched Halloween to Tuesday was nowhere on their front page.
