Moving on to better news

Moving houses is a common thing, almost everybody will move houses in their lifetime. Uprooting the lives of your wife and children to move halfway across the country is slightly less common, however its not imperative that the world needs to know this. The number one thing that fans and celebrities agree on  is that celebrities are people too. The average Joe doesn't make the news for a move from LA to Chicago, so why should the Kardashian- West family be on the news? Is it because they are known by a vast majority of the population?

It is unknown why the Karadashian-West family is on the news. But it is known  that writer Mariah Haas violated some of the critical yardsticks and elements when she wrote the article, " Are Kanye West and Kim Kardashian moving to Chicago?"

A journalist has a job to report relevant facts in a professional unbiased manner.  FOX news violated the newsworthiness yardstick of journalism in the article mentioned above.  According to Mr. Miller, " a story is worthy if it affects a lot of people for a long time". The fact that an acclaimed celebrity couple is moving will have no impact on the general public, and those it affects will only see temporary impacts.

Haas also violated the explanation yardstick, with a generic summary of Kanyes moving announcement via " The Chicago Tribune".  Rather than explaining why the public must know the details of the move, the journalist confuses the reader by making the disclaimer that the couple is keeping their homes in LA.

The  " Make the Important Interesting" element goes hand in hand with the explanation yardstick; it requires that journalists "connect the dots" or explain information in a way the public understands, and gives the people a balance of need to know and want to know information. This article would fall in the later category. Another important aspect of this element is that it doesn't make the interesting important, unfortunately that is exactly what Mariah Haas did.

Haas should have explained the effects opening a Yeezy office in Chicago will have on the company and public. Instead she  supplied the public with an article that is better suited for "Seventeen".Being the major news organization it is, in the future FOX should honor the elements and yardsticks, and leave the trivial whereabouts of the famous up to Snap chat.
